Updating the BIOS to o/c?

I can't o/c with my board, I assume it's because my BIOS won't support it, as there aren't any jumpers on the mobo. Does anyone know if I could update the BIOS to o/c?

If someone could help me with my lack of overclocking capabilities, I'd appreciate it.

I didn't figure you'd want any of that (cept the mobo) just to determine overclock capability or not..

I figured out that my mobo is a SiS of somesort
CPU - AMD Athlon XP 1800+
RAM - uh... some cheap PC133 SD I got from BuyAiB (replacing it with DDR soon anyway)
cooling - OEM Stock HSF for the CPU, 1 case fan-intake

Probally going to want to invest in a new mother board and some ddr memory. SIS would be the chipset manufacture not the MB manf. Check again around the PCI slots to see if you can find anything else. Look relly closley. Where did you get this, or is it a prebuilt system. If its prebuilt your chances of being able to o/c are pretty slim.

my dad bought all the parts for me, so it's not a prebuilt; I looked for an hour all around the PCI slots, never found any info about the board

and yes, I plan to get a new board anyway, but I just wanted to try ocing a bit now

what you need to do is simple. research a good mobo. buy the good mobo. Go to main site for info on finding good mobo for o/c-ing. To me it sounds like you have a mobo that is designed for the a user that wants to build a computer but the term FSB means nothing to them. Get a new mobo. A good mobo is worth every penny. My first mobo was a POS, and caused lots of trouble for me.

oh and if you cant change the clock settings you problably cant read temps of cpu. Dont o/c unless you can see the temps so you can monitor the processor. It would be bad to have to get a new chip.

WHen you go into the BIOS settings, what can you change? If you can change your memory settings, you can possibly get some performance there.

I can change all the normal BIOS stuff, set my cpu to run as it's supposed to, or as half FSB speed (sort of as a diff cpu)

Already planning to buy a new mobo for my new system (the rebuild of this one)

It can check the temps, the cpu temp under max load is 135F, PSU is 210F

um wow your chip is on fire, if that isnt o/c-ed then OMG dont. At you need to cool your processor much better. When i started off those were the temps i was getting and i had lots of instability. You need to devise a better cooling system b4 even think of o/c-ing.
Also i didnt think psu's had temp monitors. You might be looking at your motherboard and cpu temps, and if thats the case turn off your comp now.

from the description he gave I think thats a ECS K7S5A he has.
1.it takes both sdram and ddr ram
2.sis chipset
3. xp compatible
4.popular board for prebuilt combos

there several o/c bios made for that board, but litghost is right you need to cool that puppy.I think it was on ocworkbench that they said the new o/c bios has a 1/5 divider for the sis735

I agree that the cpu needs better cooling, it's using the stock hsf, and I'm not going to waste the cash to buy a new hsf if I'm planning on watercooling soon

the board only takes SD, I'm changing to DDR when I get my new board

the comp's not prebuilt, damnit lol

about the psu temp, I have no idea, it's an antec psu I think *not gonna crack his case open while he's at a LAN party*
the temp does drop about 100F when I stick a 2.5' fan in front of the hole setup. so it could be the mobo temp.....

A picture of the MB may help. Sounds like it could be a PC Chips MB. Why don't you ask your dad what it is?

no what im saying is that whatever program you are using may be telling you the cpu temp as the psu temp and the cpu temp as the mobo temp. It may be confused

I can't take any pics, no digi cam and never develop film. I can never get ahold of my dad, and even if I could, he wouldn't be able to tell me what mobo I've got, he deals with tons a day.

that makes sense, and that would be very bad

damn stock HSF

last night MBM5 alerted me that the processor went up to a peak of 174F, which, as far as I know, is death temp

comp still runs, but that worries me

also, I should mention, the PSU blows out some really hot air, and has no intake, I touch the mobo and it's not even really warm

*curses about hot cpus*

that was a peak during the night, crushing #s for distributed.net the whole time, and all day, and all the couple months before that....

there's no way I can get a new HSF anytime soon.... *runs as little as needed*
