Alright i need some help i don't have any idea what to do. I have a hurcules XP game theater and sound works fine with XMMS and even unreal tournement. However sound doesn't work if i want to do more then one thing that requires sound and if i open something that uses the quake 3 engine like Return to castle wolfenstien or Quake 3 it self
my question is how do i fix it so i can hear every thing. i have ben told i need a sound deamon but where do i get one and i couldn; tfind a how to on this so if any one knows of one please send me a link

Its an issue with the sound driver. Either get a better driver, or use a sound daemon. Common daemons are esd and artsd. Search for them on freshmeat.net

Your soundcard's support isn't the best.

I have a Turtle Beach Santa Cruz that I used the OSS drivers with. http://www.4front-tech.com

While those drivers were very good and enabled a lot of great features they still didn't handle multiple streams well.

You'll need to run something like artsd and spool the jobs off of it. Hardly an ideal solution. It'll work, but I wouldn't recommend it.

The best solution was to just buy an SB Audigy sound card. Of course, and SB Live! works just as well, for a linux box.

The kernel drivers are good enough to do what you want, but the sourceforge drivers are updated to reflect a few new additions.
