Question AMD or INTEL???

i'm currently using intel's P3 800EB
i can't to be sure "what i should buy for upgrade?"

u know,

intel says:
heat safety
xperience
relatevetely more chipset alternatives

amd says:
low pricess
more performance with low clock speeds
o/c possibility

pentium4, p4 celeron * athlon xp, t-bird

which 1 i should buy?

what's your opinion??? (don't forget, i'm not rich yet)

Intel has more experience? With what? Don't worry about the heat issue either. Just get a thermaltake ax-7, and your temps will be very cool. Around 30-33. Go with AMD, you wont be disapointed!

Both have excellent chips now, and both (I believe) have great chips that can have pcs built around them for low money.

I KNOW this for AMD: XP1600 and a refurb Epox 8KHA+ mobo from Newegg will run about $101- pretty much can't beat that since most of the 1600s they've been shipping have been agoias!
1.7ghz is just about a sure thing, and 1800mhz is likely

The Intel 1.6a and 1.8a chips are fairly inexpensive now I think, and getting some IMPRESSIVE ocs. Not sure about mobo costs or choices....

I would 1st ask myself
"Do I need to upgrade now?"
"can i wait a little while longer?"

If you could hang on with your current system for a few more months, your options are going to be ALOT better... plus it give you some more time to save some coin for the upgrade...

If you can only hold out on upgrading your current rig untill FEB 2003, you options will be MUCH better than they are now.

On the AMD side of things
BARTON will be out, Athlon with 512K L2 cache. (166FSBx2??)
Hammer will be out, X86-64
Intel Side
Prescott, (P4/P5?), 1024K L2 cache, hypertreding (166FSBx4??)

If you are thinking BARTON is the way to go, it may be worth your while to upgrade now and buy a cheap T-bird untill BARTON comes out..... but then you have to wory if you motherboard will support BARTON.

Feb, i think is the next upgrade season

You can't go far wrong with either Intel or AMD these days. You are upgarding at the right time. PIII800 to Athlon 1600+ you are more than doubling your speed. I have a 1.4 t-bird or 1600+ in XP terms. I will not upgrade until I can double my Mhz. which will be along time. will athlons do 2.8 real Mhz?

If you have the money go for intel, if not go with AMD.

A p3 to a 1600+ isnt just doubling your speed. Its more like tripling or quadropling it. Raw Mhz doesnt really apply to things like that. If raw mhz mattered, then why can my 1795mhz amd beat a 2.56 intel?

AMD all the way! I have been an amd fan ever since I bought a k6 system a while back. I had an Athlon 900 and recentley got an xp 1600+ and so far I am o/c'ed to 1846. I will probably make it to 1.9 or even more. The 1600+ is only $55 on newegg, which is a great deal.

IMHO If price is a consideration at all then that tips the scales in favor of AMD regardless of where you stand on the other issues. Of course on my last rig I didn't consider price and I still ended up picking AMD.

I suggest waiting also for the new chips to roll around in 2003, but if it was me, i'de go intel. Granted i'm thinkin about building an amd rig to give them a try.
