Have you tried any mtu registry tweaks yet? If not then try
HERE. They make it real esay. Just d/l the file that best fits your os and dubble click on it and it will merge the string into your registry, reboot and then yoyr done.

There is a limit to how fast you can make your line go- the provider caps your bandwidth at a max setting, which varies between providers and areas...

BUT, there are a lot of tweaks available for your pc
Speedguide has good ones, and there are other places that have more (or the same ones told differently )

The modem should be good, unless it is dying or your isp has problems- its capacity is much higher than the caps they put on your bandwidth; same with the ethernet cards and cables: Ethernet (10base) is so much faster than the caps most cable/dsl providers use that it won't matter.

well i was planing on getting a new modem so i dont have to pay modem rental. thanks. glad i wont have to buy a new card or cable. i went to bandwidthplace.com and did there speed test and my modem usually runs between 1-1.6 mbps downstream. im paying for 1500k/128k. i dont get good uploads though but i dont care since i dont run as a server. i pay 45 bucks a month and its 39.99 if you have your own modem.

Owning your own modem definetly saves you money. I would suggest you do some research through your cable company to make sure they will support your new modem (I bought a D-Link cable modem and ended up being down for three days before someone finally authenticated my modem)
