SSE2 in Barton!!????

People are saying that Barton has SSE2, if so, that is going to be one heck of a CPU. Not to put anyone on the spot really but "Oni" do you have any evidence of the Barton using SSE2 hence you also said this earlier in another thread.

This would be sweet if it does, lets hope for the best.

Isn't it an instruction set or something for better decoding?

I saw the same post as you, and would like some clarification as well.

I seriously doubt Barton will have SSE2. I haven't seen any roadmaps to that effect. I suppose it's possible, but one would hope AMD isn't going to sell Hammer short by putting all it's new features in Barton.

As for what it is, SSE2 is a SIMD (single instruction multiple data) addition to the x86 instruction set that accelerates certain floating point and interger computations. Specifically, it lets the complex ALU complete two double precision (64-bit) floating point or one 128-bit interger computation in one clock cycle.

Good thing I stumbled into AMD CPUs again. Been out of it for a while.

I forget where I heard it, unfortunately And for all I know, it might not even be true. But it does make logical sense that they would include the SSE2 Extensions into the processor.

Found something here, but it's not concrete. I'll keep looking. Hopefully, I can get a definate answer, or I'll have a nice plate of crow to chow down on later

This article at The Inquirer (it's about two months old, but most of the info is still right afaik) states that Barton will have Hammer optimisations, but it doesn't say wether it'll be SSE2 or not.

I've been searching for almost an hour. I've found plenty on Hammer having SSE2, and lots of stuff about Barton being delayed or pushed back. Some stuff on the PR jumps that the Barton processors are getting over XP, T-Bred and T-Bred B. Some stuff on Intel not quite wanting to give AMD it's SSE2 licence, and a whole lot on how Barton will have 512k L2 . . . But other than that, I've got nothing.

*Pulls plate of crow infront of himself*

Please pass the salt.

Don't think it will have sse2, but i just read an artictle over at the inqirer that says that barton will have soi, hence why they have pushed it back some more.

Bartons are getting a 100 PR jump over the 333FSB T-bred B's. The 333FSB T-bred B's have a 100 PR Jump over the 266FSB T-bred B's.
