Question A Cool and Quiet HSF

Hi Again Fellas,
I currently have a Volcano 7 HSF (not the 7+). My temps right now are about 30c for the case and 41c for the CPU with no load. My problem is this: I sleep in the room with my pc and it is unbearably loud to me. I'm willing to spend $50 for a new heatsink and cpu fan if it will be noticeably quieter. What combo do you recomend? I just need enough cooling to protect against any minor overclocks I decide to do. I want low noise and good cooling.
Thanks!

Spend $5 and add a rheostat to the CPU fan. Slow it down when it is idling. Speed it up when you are steamin'.

The Alpha pal8045 and Akasa Silvermountain are good coolers with slow fans + the Alpha fixes to the mother board.

Tt's Smart Fan II would be a good and flexable partner.

Rdytorave take a look at this, it's test/review of most of the better heat sinks with a combination of fans.

It's a UK vendor's site which I have linked to in other threads so some will have seen it before. It should give you a good overview.

Hey there.

Although this is not specifically a HSF (there is one listed though), I think these case fans could be sweet if they work properly. I plan on trying them out unless someone tells me not to in my yy-0221 server cube... It has crappy built in airflow and I've never messed with it.

Call me crazy, but maybe you should just turn off your comp when you go to sleep.

For general noise control, get a rheostat. Better yet, get a Volcano 9 at newegg for $28. Or at least a Volcano 7+ for $35.

or you could go for the ultimate in quite and go water cooled
Thats what I plan on doing one of these days. Once I have the money available that is.
