Well guys, thanks for all your help on this stage of the project. Based on what I read and the input I got from everyone else here, this is what I ordered today.

CPU P4/2.4BGHz 533M 478PIN/512K RTL 1 $202.00
DDRAM 512MB 32MX8 PC-3200C2 COR% 1 $190.00
CPU FAN ACCE|THERTAKE80X25VFSCII RT 1 $18.00
VGA CHAINTECH TI4200 64MB GT20 RTL 1 $129.00
ACCES FAN GUARD| FOR 80MM FAN% 2 $4.00
POWER SP|431W(P4)ATXEG465P-VE(FC)RT 1 $86.00
MB ASUS P4B533-E 845/ICH4 INTEL RET 1 $165.00
CPU THERM PASTE|ARCTIC SILVER 3 3G% 1 $6.00
CASE LL ALUM|435ATXMSL PC60USBB2 RT 1 $138.00

Subtotal $938.00
Tax $.00
Shipping and Handling charge 22.84
Total $960.84

I also ordered a Swiftech MCX-4000 from another source

Now comes the unberable part, the wait. I have to wait till Newegg gets them to me. Hopefully by the end of the week. Once that gets here and the Arctic Silver has had a little bit of burn in time (I figure 3 days folding nonstop ought to do it) then its time to play. See if we can't get this machine to hit the 3 gig mark. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks for all the help you have been.

 Able

Edit: I updated to include prices and shipping charges.

Any comments, advice, or ways that I might adapt this to make it a more Overclockable monster would appreciated. Remember, I am an overclocking noob, no advice no matter how simple it may seem to you is unwanted.

sounds like a great rig, GL with the O/Cing...and waiting IS the hardest part, I'm about to regulate on UPS hehe

bump,

Just cause I want to do the dance of joy and share my happiness with everyone

:D

Don't need a CDRW, I already have one. And all of these other parts to.

36gig IBM SCSI Harddrive
Plexwriter 12/4/32 (SCSI) CDRW
Pioneer DVD player(SCSI)
Adaptec 19160 SCSI Host adapter
Soundblaster Live! (with cambridge 5.1 surround sound)

That combined with the parts listed above is the total system I'm going to end up running.

cool rig! I have a question though...

on www.asus.com, they say:

Introduction

P4B533-E Series motherboards is the most complete motherboard for Pentium 4. In addition to supporting DDR 266, the P4B533-E features high-speed interfaces USB2.0 and RAID ATA133 (optional). Optional onboard 6-channel audio, 1394 and LAN also ensure you get the most value out of your Pentium 4 system.

isn't the max ram speed only up to DDR 266 (pc2100)? how do you fit a pc3200 into it?

All DDR uses the same physical format, so a stick of 3200 (or 2100) will fit in the system. If you run faster memory in a motherboard it will run at the lower speed, so the XMS3200 would run at DDR266 instead of DDR333.

But that's only if you don't mess with the stock settings. If you overclock you can bump that memory back to 3200 and beyond.

oh cool :)

Is overclocking the memory speed different than overclocking the cpu? If I'm just using a normal computer case am I going to run into any heat problems?
