Unhappy Need help with a Compaq deskpro

Ineed help overclocking a Compaq Deskpro 4000. I bought it used and I don't know how to access the bios. On the Compaq website I read that you press F10 at startup before windows shows it's face but it doesn't work. Also the motherboard has a set of swithes to set the speed, but they only slow down the computer.

Welcome to the forums.

I don't own Compaqs, but a couple of the ones I have worked on used F10 immediately on startup. Don't wait for the boot screen to pass before trying. other keys to try if F10 doesn't work include Del, Tab, and Ctrl.

I did tryed f10 but as I understand the system is suposed to prompt you to press f10 if you want to mess around whith the bios. But my computer won't do that .I even tryed installing a new rompaq, and still no change. I also tryed to install the Compaq f10 setup utillities but there is something wrong with the program and it will not install. By the way I thought that the program didn't want to install because there migth have been a problem with windows, but I ran Killdisk and reformatted my hd and re install windows but the f10 utillities will not install. The only thing it will prompt at startup is to press f12 for the network service boot, but I'm not on a network.

Before you can install the compaq F10 utilities you need to remove all of the partitions on your drive. Their program will put a small (8mb) partition at the beginning to put the software in. The install program will install the software there. You can them go ahead and partition the rest of the drive and format and install windows. You will only get the F10 message if this software is present. I used to own a deskpro 4000.
