That sounds very strange. I have never heard of anything like that before. Are you sure the squeak is coming from your psu?? I may just be your mouse making a funny noise or your mousepad.

i first thought it was the scroll wheel being just a little dirty, but you can also hear it faintly when you actually move the mouse.i put my ear on the side if the psu and its definatly coming from there

does it also do it on heavy loads? i had a problem with heavy loads and a high pitch noise......like if i have prime95 running it will make the noise. it was actually the HSF i think(alpha pal 8942) i just reseated everything and no more noise.

It is indeed the power supply. Switching power supplies switch at very high frequencies, producing a magnetic field that also oscillates at very high frequency. The oscillation of the magnetic field may produce a oscillation in physical components such as transformer cores, toroidal legs, or even the sheet metal case with harmonics that fall whithin the audible spectrum. Moving the mouse changes the graphics card's current draw, as the cursor has been hardware accelerated for many years now. This change in load on the power supply (or any other, for that matter) can invoke the exact conditions that produce the noise you are hearing.

Get a bigger PSU. Increasing the wattage will reduce the load on the PSU, and therefore it will reduce the noise.

I got my Gateway 2000 rig in my sig running off the 145W PSU that came with it originally. Smoother 'an ****, Granted, any sort of "good" OC is impossible, but oh well,

Might be that you're PSU is on it's way out, and the 5V draw from your mouse is causing a one of the components to emit the noise.

well from what i read above, or at least conceaved it, it sounds like you are over taxing your PSU. So first thought is get rid of some stuff that is not needed. But who wants to give up goodies. Second thought, bigger PSU.

I had a gateway 2000. Origionaly came with a 90 Watt supply. It hummed and moaned alot (not the fan) So I bumped it up to a 400watt. Dosnt miss a beat.

I just replaced my 150 Watt PSU in this machine with a 350 because of all the mods and fans LED's and drives. It looks more like a boxed UFO at night than a computer, but it is really nice. But I think the electric bill is gunna kill me for i leave my machine on 24/7.
