How do you get DirectX 8.1b on XP after SP1 its installed?

Hey guys i dont know if i'm doing the right thing but i'm trying to installed DirectX 8.1b from teh microsoft website (the one for windows 2k and nt) it installs but after i reboot it still shows as 8.0 i have SP1 installed on my system already and i'm using windows XP Pro, anyone knows if i'm installign the right version of DX? or anything else that i should do to get it to install?

I've been seeing these posts lately, and I don't understand. I have XP, and when I run DXdiag, both before and after SP1, it shows DX 8.1. This is what is bundled with XP. If some other program is showing something else, I think you can safely ignore it, it must be a glitch.
