how do i completely disable the internet explorer cache? i dont want it to store anything..
is it possible?

im on Win2k running IE6.
thanks!

I know you can set it to 1meg, and i think if you hi-light the number in the box and type 0, then you will have 0megs cache :D

no, that isnt possible. you are right though about the 1MB min.

i was thinking of a registry entry or something.. there is no available setting in the regular internet options.

You could use opera :)

It allows you to specify how much space to use for cache, and you can set it to 0 if you want, you can also set it to empty on exit. Opera rocks:D

yep, i thought about another browser. just thought i would ask to you guys first.
btw, i dont want to clean the cache, i dont want the program to use it at all.

i'm j/w why you want to compeltely not use cache.

A small amount of cache can be good, for when you hit the back button, and the page pops up instantenously. On a cable modem it will still be fast, but not as fast as say... 1 meg of cache.

Yeah it sounds like to me that he is surfing alot of porn sites, and he wants to be 100% sure that his tracks are covered up. :D

But all kidding aside, i believe 1MB is the absolute minimum in IE, so if that's not good enough for ya. Go for Opera i think you can set it's cache to 0. And also you can set it to clear the cache everytime you close the program.

you can do that on IE too. you can set it to clean the cache when you close it.
id just like to try it with no cache, thats why. i have it now to update the webpages everytime i open them which is similar to have no cache at all.

Is this for security reasons? If so, you can create a RAMdisk and put the cache on there. That way it's deleted entirely every time you shut down. Make sure you have a lot of RAM though, or else you'll be taking from Windows' life blood.

I've tried Opera. But the ad on the top right hand corner changed my mind right after I see it. I went back to IE... :(
I've tried Mozilla too. That one is good but for some reason I deleted it. :p

Have you tried making the cache file read only and locking out its system access ?
