Cheap Sound Card and speakers?

Can anyone reccomend a cheap sound card. I dont need anything fancy, but I would prefer 2 sound channels for left and right sounds. And can anyone recomend some cheap 2 piece speakers that will work well with the sound card? I would prefer the speakers be black, Thanks!

pick up an SBlive value, they are dirt cheap with good sound
and i just got some Altec Lansing 221 speakers, cheap 2.1 setup that kicks butt for the price (about $50 US).

If you really want cheap, try the SoundBlaster 16 PCI. About $20 or less online. The sound quality is mediocre at best.

SB 16 PCI from Newegg, $16.

speakers, from $9.......

You'll get perfectly adequate sound from this setup (I had a SB16 for years. They're actually pretty good)

How do you recognise something that is still technology?
A good clue is if it comes with a manual...

I got the Creative SBS270 speakers for $17 and they sound very nice despite having no sub.

The absolute best sound card for you is the MuseXL knock off made by Pine. They use the same hardware and you can find the card at www.newegg.com for only $15.00! Not bad for a 5.1 Audio Card. Here is the direct link,

http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ry=1611&DEPA=1

Great speakers to go with it would be the Altec Lansing 251 5.1 Amplified 6-Piece Speaker System, but it might be a little too pricey for you. They are going for $68.00 at newegg.

A second option would be the Altec Lansing AVS500W Multimedia 5 Piece Speaker System for Gaming at newegg for $33.00.

The name brand SB16 is OK.

I would just think that for $1.00 less you can get, what I would consider a much better card. You can see a review on the Hercules Gamesurround Muse 5.1 DVD which uses the same Synthesizer Chip: C-media 8738-6CH-LX as the Pine card I recommended above for $15.00

Here is the review link so you can read more about it,

http://www.tomshardware.com/video/02...729/index.html

Just read it over before going with the SoundBlaster 16.

wouldnt 5.1 be pointless since I am only getting 2 piece speakers?

It would be about as pointless as a 400 horse power engine in a sports car, or maybe a 2.5 ghz CPU to surf the net and do some word processing.

I guess I don't understand your reasoning, why wouldnt you want the most for your money? the 5.1 card will do just as much as a SB16 and a whole lot more. You can never foresee the day that you might use more then 2 speakers? Esp. considering that it is cheaper then the less capable SB16 your planning on getting.

Is it because you like the "Creative" Name Brand?
