Question 166 FSB with XP2000+ without unlocking

Hi,

my system is as follows:
Athlon XP2000+ running at 11,5x142 Mhz stable (not unlocked)
512 DDR PC2100 running at 284 Mhz
WinXP
MoBo: A7S333
Ram Timings: 2,5-2-2-7

Is it possible to run at FSB 166 MHz without harming the system??

Suggestions appreciated.

Regards,

Michael

well i suppose it depends on a few things
a) what brand memory
b) your cooling setup
just keep nudging the fsb up and checking for stability with benchmarks and things to stress the components. When you find it unstable knock it down a little bit or give the cpu a little more vcore but watch the temps they will rise you want to keep them at 45-50c at the most under load

Thanks for your replies and nice welcome.

The problem is that you cant change vcore settings with the a7s333 motherboard. Maybe someone has experience with this special board.

What I tried was 143 and 144 Mhz, but the system was not stable, benchmarking progs crashed after a while, POwerDVD also quit its service after 1-2 minutes. Maybe the onboard sound card and the ram timings do not allow me more FSB. I just wonder if at 166/33 it will work again.

Michael

I just purchased a XP2000+ last week.

If I set my multiplier on auto, isn't it suppose to be 12.5?

133*12.5=1666.25

did u set it to 11.5 on purpose? 11.5*142=1633 right?

Hi,

sorry, I mistyped it, yes, it's 12,5, not 11,5.

The a7S333 gives me just the option 166 Mhz with 42 Mhz PCI Bus, I thought it would be 33 Mhz automatically. Well, it didn't work, and the only stable solution right now is 141 Mhz FSB. I tried all kinds of memory timings but I don't want to revert to 2-3-3-6 (default setting of my PC2100 DDR) for 1-2 MHz Points.

It is now

12,5 x 141
2-2-2-6 memory timings

I just try 142 FSB, if it runs stable, I'l keep it. 143 Mhz FSB is unstbale, I get occasioanl blue screens and crashes at boot, but it is not worth tuning down memory timings for 142 --> 143 Mhz

Regards,

Michael

what kind of ram do you have? the brand....
what i recommend you doing...is as soon as you get the chip, put it to the settings you can do totally stable..then run prime for a really long time (a day or so)...then up the fsb more (repeat process so on and so forth)

your chip might just not be burned in...prime95 will do that for you..and to really check stability...go to google, and type in "cpu stability test" i thought my computer was running good at 2050 mhz...but after this..it crashed after a few minutes....its a great program, and even at 2006mhz.."this thing runs like a 486" -namagomi

..hm..strange.. Prime is producing an calculating error at those setings i want to try. It aborts just after a few seconds...

Games crashes after a while, but no blue screen, it looks like a rendering problem. in Americas Army as well as in UT2003 demo after a few minutes I get General Protection faults, applications crash.

Sandra Memory Benchmarking test are stable.

I also overclocked my Geforce 2 MX-400 at 215 Mhz (200 Mhz default) and memory at 185 Mhz (default is 160 MHz). May this be the problem??

Michael

Lets see 166x12.5=2075mhz.
If you have air cooling you might be at the cpu's limit.
Dosen't your board let you run your memory at 166mhz with the cpu at 133mhz? If not the only way to find out for sure if it's the memory or cpu is unlock it.
No 1/5 pci divider either? Most kt-333 boards have those a sis 745 chipset no idea.

If that chip is an aroia Y or an agoia Y and you have watercooling or better, that speed is possible, though unlikely. If you've gotten a thoroughbred 2000XP, (they ARE out there, but rare,) then that speed is quite possible, potentially even on air.

in fatc its very possible, ive got a 2000+ Tbred hitting 11.5X167/34 for a speed of 1921mhz with air cooling and my temp only hits 35c under prime95 torture test

however lol with a multi of 12.5 i havent been able to get past 160 fsb without it crashing on boot, fastest posted speed ive gotten was 1956 with settings of 12.0/163 fsb but i think ill stick with my 334fsb and speed of 1921 rock solid and stable
