For dual setup use "Pentium 4 Xeon - Prestonia". They are NOT much more expensive than regular P4. But if you want to put together a system with more than 2 CPUs, then you have to use a special P4 Xeons which cost $1000+.

For comarison of Prestonia prices against regular P4 (Northwood) go HERE.

That's a pretty neat price list. Has anyone ever How do those prestonias overclock? They're not much more than a Northwood P4 according to that chart. Only board sold for it at newegg is an intel.

you cannot overclock xeons on most boards...the only board tht you CAN oc is the Iwill I believe but it requires soldering and most people do not want to deal with the risk of that....

I wish there was a good trick to enable SMP support for the P4's. Those Xeons are tremendously expensive. Wasn't there a Dual Slot1 MB that you could take the Mecendino Celerons (Pre- Coppermine Celerons) and trick them into making them SMP cable?

Actually P4's are SMP capable but there has not been a board to take advantage of it. VIA had one on display 6-12 months ago but there has not been a company to make them yet.

A PIV smp would have to have the PIV sockets to work. They're all Xenon sockets so far. It wouldn't be hard if they thought there was a good market and/or if Intel doesn't have a legal means to prevent it. From what I've read so far, the PIV core is smp capable.
