I am trying to save my sys from a dying hdd. I am putting in a new WD 40Gig to replace my almost dead Quantum 10Gig. well for some reason the cd drive shows up in bios and when detecting ide drives but not in win!!!!! I need this so I can use he file transfer program on the xp cd. Any ideas what I am doing wrong?

Check the jumper and cable location of cd-rom.

XP can be funny about detecting drives, especially drives setup on cable select

I had that problem the other day when I was doing some thing for my uncle in winME.

Not sure where the setting is in XP but check what drives you have it set to display.

What had happened in my uncle's case was that he had set it only to show drives a-d in TWEAKUI and I had to change it to show E aswell.
