Why cant someone enforce a law requiring all websites to have a rating like TV shows and Movies have (Rated PG,PG-13, R etc..) this way you can restrict your child from going to bad sites. dont u think this would make surfing the web much better and safer?

I think the internet unlike our television shows is actually free from any form of judgement. Whether you believe it or not you are judging certain types of information in a prejudice manner.

I don't think if a kid see's some "boobs" over the internet he will turn into a heavanistic pervert. This type of thinking is usually centered in America as Americans like to worry and fear everything for example

6 o'clock news "Killer bee's are you next?"
"Hackers they can take your life away"

usually stupid fears. For example if I turn to some of the canadian channels I have they are showing pretty risque stuff such as full nudity etc... though I don't think Canada is effected too much at all and japan also.

I don't think there are too many horrible things on the web that would hurt children at all. Maybe you can enlighten me?

There are programs like Net Nanny for that Not that I would trust somebody else to filter my internet access like that. There have been instances where places like the register got put on the filter list because they did an article on it.

There are several sites that do have a "form" of rating...porn sites, mainly.

There are also issues where that would be impossible to enforce, it would require global acceptance...

That and the idea of putting an arbitrary rating on a site set by someone else's standards just bothers me. Call me a cynic if you will, but I just don't trust people that would want that job.

no no maybe u didn't understand what i was asking, lets say every site has a rating like Y, Y-13 etc.. and in internet explorer you could have the option to choose which ratings to accept, forinstance i choose Accept all ratings, then i could browse everyhting , then if i were a parent i could choose Accept y-13 rating, then my child could not view site that are rated higher then y-13.

And triflux i have got pop-up ads showing more then just boobs, and i dont know how u want ur kids to be raised but i dont want my 10 year old (im only 18 and dont have kids yet) to see these sites that show people engaging in sexual intercourse.
