If i were to install say ummm "Maya Unlimited 4.0" on my network drive which is connedted @ 100mbit/sec, Would having it on the network drive reduce my performance very much ?

Yes it would, since it would have to bring in the data to the memory, swap file, process it and then transfer it back to the network drive. Also I doubt Maya would work on a network, I'm sure it needs the file to be in the same computer to work.

Try installing a game on the computer with the files in the network drive, and then run it, see the difference.

Well I did have Maya installed onto the mapped network drive and it worked normaly... I didnt notice and speed differences but there might have been some un-noticed ones.
