Can any one point the way.....?

I have searched and searched on this. The MB comes with Easy Tune 4. But if I am not mistaken it overclocks the PC EVERYTIME the OS starts. This can't be good. I want to push this chip up a bit. Nothing too huge. Maybe to 3.0 or so. I have a Thermaltake Volcano 7+ HSF.

The rest of the specs are as follows.

Intel Pentium 2.4b w/533
Gigabyte 81-EXP MB
768mb Samsung PC2100 DDR
Antec True Power 550w PSU

Basically what I am looking for is a guide to BIOS O'cing with the 81EXP. Or someone that has this board that has O'ced this board VIA the BIOS.

Hey James, welcome to the forums.

I'm a big fan of the 8IEXP, but I hate the Easy Tune program. The concept is nice and being able to adjust your settings in Windows would be easier than going into the BIOS. The problem is, Easy Tune causes a lot of stability problems. I don't recommend installing it on your system.

The best way to overclock your system is to go into the BIOS when the system is posting. You'll see options here for setting your FSB speed and the PCI/AGP speeds (Lock this at 33/66) but Gigabyte hides some of the most important controls and this frustrates some users.

Don't let it get to you. Press Crtl+F1 and this will take you into the Advanced Options page where you can adjust your memory timings and divider ratios.

Also, once you set a good overclock your system should be able to start and run on it every time for years, so starting with an overclock every time you start up shouldn't be a big deal.

Good luck-

Oh, and for best overclocking results, run just one stick of memory.

Thank you for your reply. I wasn't concerned with the boot of an over c'ded machine. My main concern was that the last time I installed easy tune it launched every time i started the os. Which lead me to belive that if I applied changes in the means of overclocking, that it would boot at 2.4ghz and when the sofware loaded when the OS loaded it would bump it to whatever setting it was set for.

What kind of settings am I looking to change? I am slightly new at this and a nice shove in the right direction is all i need.
