GF2Ti V. GF4MX440

I currently have a GF2Ti. I was considering getting my brother (who is not seriously into gaming, but has some old S3 Savage based card) a GF4MX440, since they are only $45. However, looking at toms VGA chart http://www6.tomshardware.com/graphic...charts-05.html
It seems like the GF4 will outperform mine n almost every way! I always thought the MX series would suck, but this one seems better. So should I get it for him, or get it for myself and send him my GF2?

Also, does the OC factor make my card potentially better?

the MX440 is better than the Ti there is no doubt about that, but where did you get it for 45$? that is a pretty good deal depending on the quality of the vendor and manufacturer...

Check pricewatch, from several different places (some I've heard of some I haven't) and for under $50 shipped you can get an Inno3d, Chaintech, Appollo, or AOpen. Which one do you reccommend? I haven't bought one yet actually.

thats why, normally i avoid the entries from ghetto companies lol....i would avoid all of those cards...in fact the cheapest one i would buy would be 60$ and too expensive imho....though a Chaintech should be fine, and AOpen too they have decent quality but i dont know about ocing...just make sure to check resellerratings.com before you buy

Oops,I just realized that all the cheaper ones have SDRAM instead of DDR. The benchies at Toms were done with a DDR version, that had 250/400 clocks. I've found some cheap DDR versions that had slower clocks, but nothing equal.

Except! The GF4MX440SE. What is the SE all about, does anyone know? It has DDR, and is always cheaper. What's the catch?

Are there any other alternatives for about $60 shipped? Either that will beat my GF2Ti, or be equal?

The SE most likely means it supports AGP 8x. As for the GeForce4 MX440, make sure it's DDR for sure. The GF4 MX440 will certainly beat a GF2 Ti, so I would go for that.

The SE is not AGP 8X. It is a super cheap budget DDR model. The memory is only clocked at 333MHz. It has no fan on the heatsink. I don't remember the core frequency. It's better than a 420, but it's not a full strength 440.

I think I might try this card
http://galaxy3000.com/Itemdesc.asp?Cartid={8F245AE3-7ED1-457F-A5BF-CC7A35D09E2B}&ic=VG%2DA%2FMX440%2D64&Tp=
It's the same specs as the one tested in Toms VGA chart, so it should be good. I can get it from these guys, who seem decent, or get the one made by Palit Microsystems from Newegg for the same price. I'd love to choose Newegg for their rep, but the Palit has just a heatsink, no fan, and I've never heard of them. I used to have an Apollo card back in the day, and it seemed good. Any opinions on that?

That's cool, but I'm only spending $60 or less. I'm happy with the performance level of the MX440, unless the Radeon 9000 is higher.

Whoa, Hold on there....

Radeon 9000 will smoke a Gf4mx 24/7...

Definitly grab that if you can, Although I prefer the 8500's over the 9000's simply because they are faster with the extra texture pipeline that the 9000 lacks....
