2.4 gighz wireless network and 2.4 gighz phone interference (laptop card problem)

I have a wireless network card for my laptop and everytime I get a call it halts my internet (that is derived from the wireless network).

The phone and the router are 2.4 gighz, I think this is what is causing the interference, but it only happens with the laptop...that I have noticed.

Is there anyway to resolve this problem, with out buying new hardware?

Thank you much.

you could try changing that channel that the cordless phone runs on. I know that my two cordless phones have that option anyway.

See if that helps.

You could also try changing the channel the wifi cards are communicating on. I believe there are fourteen different channels that you can choose from. Assuming you are running a M$ operating system, the communicating channel can be changed in two ways:

1.)In the hardware manager->wirelessnetcard properties ->advanced tab;

2.)Most cards come with client software that allows you to add/remove/edit connection profiles. You can use this tool to create a number of different profiles with different properties such as modes (ad-hoc/infrastructure), transmission rates and also to specify the communication channel. In my experience, using 2.) will overide any similar settings in 1.) .

I too have had problems with interference relating to crosstalk between my phone, my wireless headphones and my ipaq. I solved the problem using method 2.)

EDIT : Another point - make sure your card transmission rates are set to auto rather than the maximum speed (can be done in the client software). This will ensure that the card will still work at its lowest SNR threshold.

Hopefully that will solve your problem too

I would think that if your phone is a DSS (Digital Spread Spectrum), the problem is likely to return as DSS 2.4 ghz phones scan for the best channel to use and not use one particular channel.

I never had a problem with the default channel on my DLink, but I guess the phone was on a diff channel.. But I always wondered, now I know it can interfer. Its a good thing most cordless phones are 900Mhz.
