TI4200 only does 6900 in 3dMARK2001?¿??

Hi everyone. Here's my rig:
2.4b@2.7
512mb XMS 3200RAm@400mhz
Abit SiluroG4200 128mb 240@275/440@500
2x60GbWD's 8mb cache in RAID O.

I just benchmarked on 3dMark2001 and got a lousy-ass score of 6900. Is that sad or what? Aren't these card supposed to do a lot more? I know it isn't a 4600, but shouldn't I be getting scores around 9000?

If anyone can help me I'd greatly appreciate it.

Have you set the "additional GF4 Ti4200 properties" to default? for examples, 3D Anti Aliasing is OFF? You click "Restore Default" for each menu in the property.

Have you installed Intel Chipset Driver from you mobo?

If the above checkmarks don't work, then you need to re-format and clean install the O.S, and use the latest drivers for each hardware.

Yep, do that.

1) Make sure Anisotropic Filtering and Antialiasing are off in Advanced/Display Properties
2) Or you can reinstall the drivers (use Nvidia's Detonator drivers) and it'll reset the properties to default.
3) Reinstall drivers. Once I was noticing only about 50% the performance although all settings were correct. A simple reinstallation of the display drivers fixed it.

Wow! Thanks for all the replies. I've been running off the drivers that come with the installation CD of the card, and I supposed they're really old. I tried getting the newest detonator drivers just the other day but the nvidia site didn't have functioning "download" links. Wierd. I'll try again.

I got this card along with the whole computer I personally built, so everything was formatted and new.

I also will try to download the new BIOS for the 845PE mb, maybe that has something to do with it.

I ran PCMARK2002 just the other day. I got 6900CPU score. Is that any good?

If I give the CPU 1.65 volts (max the mb permits) , overclock it to 2880 and run Prime95 it reaches 65degrees. Isn't that way too hot? I backed off to 2700 and will stay there until I get a 36CFM YS Tech fan to replace the ultra-quiet 15CFM fan on my heatsink. Sometimes I wonder how the computer runs at all with such a slow CPU fan.

Anyways, thanks a lot. I'll post again if I'm able to fix it.

you best get that sorted cos I get that score with the setup you see below...still a Ti4200 but only with a 933....

you should be getting well over 10000...I take it you use the default settings for 3DMark - you aint set them all on their highest have you?

you definately have something messed up, make sure you don't have texture sharpening enabled or ANY of the goodies, then test..

I get around 9750 with my GF3 Ti200

yes we've all established that we get better scores than him. big deal. lets try actually helping him.

if you havent sorted it allready - here's something to try:
download the trial version of SiSoft Sandra (if you dont already have it) and do a cpu test, and a memory bandwidth test. that should give you some idea of weather its a hardware fault, or a software fault - if you get low scores than you can be pretty certian its probably that the hardware isnt setup correctly (memory timing ect.)

SYT_Shadowfax - Put everything back to stock now - you WILL kill that p4 at those temps and voltages. trust me - it wont last long.

I notice you have your system overclocked...I remember a thread a short while a go about someone who overclocked and got a much lower score in 3dmark although it was better in game..

does it feel slow in game ? like your on a system worthy of 6900?

I installed 40.91 drivers (might have the name wrong...but they were the latest ones at nvidia). I retested and got a lousy 7450. How can I get such low scores?

I'll run pcmark2002 tomorrow and write down CPU/MEM/HDD scores so you can see if they're normal or not.

Oh, the SiSoft standard gives my CPU and Mem scores slightly under a 2.8P4 and over 333ram (normal cause I'm running the ram at 400).

I played UT2003 just the other day. It was at 1280*1024 with Quinqux AA and it worked just fine...no discernible "stops" when a missile got fired, etc etc.
Maybe I should redownload 3dmark and get 3dmarkSE.

Oh, about the temps: I always run at +5% core (which gives me 1.5 core according to HardwareMonitor) and it can complete Prime95 for hours on end at 2.7. That's at an FSB of 150, which coupled with a 3/4 dividor gets me a wonderful 400Mhz ram. I have a fan pointed at the ram cause it gets too hot for my tastes even though it's only at 2.6V. Obviously the settings are 2-5-2-2.
Anyways, like this it doesn't cross 52 degrees and is stable at 50 while running prime95 for hours.

The 65º thing was just an experiment. I want to get it to 3Ghz (kinda unlikely). The fastest I've made it run is 2880 at 160fsb and +15% core. The chip's stepping is SL6D7. The problem with running it like this is that the fan can't cope with the extra heat so it gets too hot and fails prime95. When I get a good fan I'll try again.

What temps is considered TOO high?

Syt,

If you're using a VIA chipset AND the AGP drivers 440 (or the 4in1 445v, which have them included), then you can try backleveling the AGP drivers. rerun the 4in1 install program telling it to UNINSTALL the agp driver, then run the 4in1 4.43v install program telling it to INSTALL the the AGP drivers. I had the same sympthoms this weekend with Win98 when trying the new hyperion (4in1 445), and found it was the AGP driver that was cutting my 4200 performance in half!!

Regards
FTC

Oh man! I just wrote a post and the firewall was activated => bye bye post!

Here goes again.

The CPU is at 2798. It runs Prime95 forever like this. SISoftSandra reports it slightly slower than a normal 2.8, which is good. Temps are 53ºC under full load after hours. It doesn't get higher than that, so I guess thermal throttling is out of the question.
Memory: XMS Corsair3200C2 at 412DDR 2-5-2-2. It runs memtest86 forever and has a nice 120mm fan pointing towards it to keep it cool. SiSoft gave it a 3300Max bandwith score, which is good.
MB: Abit i845PE with the drivers that come with the board.
HDD's: Raid 0: 2*60Gb WD SE 8MB cache drives. Benchmarked in SiSoft Sandra they're exactly as fast as they should be.
VC: Abit Siluro Ti4200 128Mb overclocked to 275/500. It has the latest detonator drivers installed.

I reran 3dmark with this setup in default mode and I got 7990.

I ran everything stock and got a score of 6500. So it's not the overclock that's killing it.

Maybe the board needs the new drivers.

I really need help. I don't know what to do.

slim and sleek....

you wrote something about a firewall running in windows..... that's could be it.

Can you turn off the firewall and/or any "background" softwares? and run the benchmarks again?

my tip for speed and stability:
latest drivers with WHQL
slim microsoft windows (no fancy things installed)
slim microsoft office (word, excell, access, outlook)
asus probe + sisoft sandra + 3dmarks
slim norton antivirus + firewall
No freewares, spywares, sharewares, etc.
No "update fever", always run original software.

The firewall is on my second computer (the one in the sig).
The new one is 3 weeks old so it barely has any software installed, definitely not enough to clog it down.

That shouldn't be the problem. I'm going to try to download the latest BIOS for the MB. Maybe that'll do something.
