i'm looking for a video card replacement for one of my rigs and i'd like some advice on the video card replacement.

I'm looking for somthing in the 130$ range.

so its either a 8500 128meg or a 4200 64 meg. is the g4 fast enough to justify the 128 meg loss in memory?

please give me some imput and if you know of any deals on video cards in this range. ps i need a Svideo out.

This has been debated many times in the forums.

Both are good cards.

If you only need one monitor (and TV-out) I'd look for a retail ATI 8500LE 128mb. Cheaper then a regular 8500, the retail 8500LE will run at (and above) the default 275/275 8500 speed.

From the other discussions it seems the 4200s are cheaper in the US and the 8500s are cheaper in Canada, but I don't know about anywhere else.

I have another question.

Is ATI 8500LE has better image quality than NVIDIA4200 based video card ?

I don't care too much about speed, but image quality is really important to me.

i got 2 systems side by side. ATI is much better image quality. but if they were not side by side you wouldnt notice diff.

few would be able to tell difference if they were to look at one and look at the other a few minutes later.

I just saw ATI website has sale on Raden 8500LE for only $79.
What are missing parts in LE version ? Does it have same image quality as regular 8500 model ?

Thanks

AFAIK LE is clocked lower: LE= light edition or something.

Just get a made by ATI one. Other manufacturers sometimes lower clock speed etc.

My GeForce 4 Ti4200 64MB DDR was cheap, is pretty cool for games, and has Svideo out. £110 from ebuyer.com, cheaper than an equivelant ATI card at the time.

the 4200 will also overclock to 4600 speeds while the 8500 will overclock to 4200 speeds.

really it comes down to how long you plan on keeping this card. 128mb doesn't have a very large impact now but in a year or so it will have major impacts. If you plan on another video card upgrade within a year go ti4200, otherwise I think the 128 8500le would be much better. they are both great cards, and if you buy a 8500le just make sure it's clocked at 250/250 and not 230/230 or something.

...or, if you play games TODAY, buy a ti4200.

the 8500 series will play any game out today fine , I had a 8500LE 128 overclocked to 310/306 it was great, could not max out all settings as my 9500 Pro can and still be silky smooth but neither can a Ti4200

cisco kid;)

My 8500LE can overclock to 315/305...thats way above Ti4200 speeds, and its ALL stock, heh
