Tornado Question

First will a Vantec tornado fit on my Volcano 7+ HS?

Second, will the Speed controller that came with the Volcano7+ work with the Tornado?

Third, wheres a good place to buy them. Newegg has them for $21 with shipping. Does that sound about right?

Thanks.

The tornado should fit as it is an 80mm fan.

Speed controller won't work as it interfaces with the internal circuitarty of the Smart Fan.

You can buy the OEM Tornado here for $18.50 (including shippping). The Tornado is made by Sunon. For the Tornado itself, it's $20.50 w/ shipping. I get most of my fans frm here. They are very, very reliable.

The tornado is labeled as a vantec as well and is sold at sidewinder also. Why pay $2 more for the Vantec over the Sunon? To heck wiith a name as long as it works the same. Thanks for the suggestion about them. I forgot all about sidewinder.

The Volcano 7+ has a 70mm fan, so the tornado won't fit because it's an 80mm fan.

would the backpressure of user an adapter from 80 to 70 mm be as bad as from 80 to 60 mm? if not it might be worth noting that the volcano 7 (non plus) had an adapter built in since it was a 60 mm hs. im thinking of taking it apart and seeing if i can get it to fit my volcano 7+ it looks like i might be able to screw the adpater into the fins themselves

Good call. I totally forgot Thermaltake had to be retarded and use a 70mm instead of a 80mm. Guess Ill have to build that water bong cooling system after all.

Don't get the tornado unless you're use to having a hair dryer on in your room all the time.

Yes, it's that loud.

I made the mistake of putting four of them in my system at full blast and my room sounded like a landing strip.

If you really want to push cfms without the noise try installing a 120mm with a 120 to 80 fan adapter.

www.1coolpc.com has one that works great, they even have pictures of a 120mm fan mounted with the adapter on a Swiftech MCX-462

Your choice,

I don't think that a tornado on the heat sink is too loud, the one one the side of my case is running at 7v though.
Pretty sure the volcanno 7+Fan speed controller does not work with the tornado it maybe as simple as splicing different conectors I forget.
I am going to water cooling, however better efficentcy very little noise.
