What, exactly, is the purpose of the little purple plastic thing under the drive cages? I know it is a fan clip, but there are also little hexagonal holes in that arm thing sticking out of the left side of it. what do they do?

The purple plastic is for mounting a fan. No screws required, the fan just snaps right in.

I know that, but there is on the left side of it a piece sticking out, and there are openings in the flat end of it. What is that part of it for?

Those pieces snap into the fan's screw holes to secure it.

No, no, the arm thing extending towards the back of the case from the left side of the fan clip!

Okay, now I see what your talking about but I have no idea what it's there for. Don't worry about it because its most likely not important.

It's a guide for extended length PCI cards. [edit: the case manual lists it as part #22 - card guide]

I took mine out for cleaner air flow in the case.
