what does coolerxp do

this little prog came with pcalert.
i find pcalert annoying for purely aesthetic reasons, it's to big.
i run mbm & cooler xp.
so... when i run cooler xp it drops my system from what ever temp it's at to about 8-10 degrees over ambient.
how?
all i have is a regular "recommended" amd certified HSF.
going water cool when i got the cash.
