socket 7 and "oc-able" dont even belong in the same sentence my friend.. if memory serves me only pentium pro's and AMD k6-2's or k6-3's run in them, and those chips my friend arent exactly stellar overclockers.

if i were you, i would save up, and at the very LEAST buy a cheap socket-a board, even with SD-RAM if you're really tight on money, and a nice duron.

the performance difference between that and a socket-7 combo will be HUGE, but the price really wont be.

my .02

Forget socket 7 or super socket 7 boards, they don't have much potential. Sure, you can build a super 7 system pretty cheap, I just did it. But it ain't worth it. There is absolutely ZERO tech support, none of that stuff has any warranty, and it's all old. I've got a super 7 system I'm using now, it has a PA-2013 board (had nothing but trouble), 384MB of PC100 SDRAM, an AMD K6-III+ 550 CPU, and a 3dfx Voodoo 4 4500 PCI VC. First off, the AGP port doesn't run well on these things (I have a real nice GeForce 3 Ti 200 but it won't do much more than boot up), second, they don't support any of the later faster hard drives, and 3rd, they don't overclock well, some barely run at specified speed. I wouldn't do it again on a bet.

Here is a good list to give you an idea of what has the best performance: http://k6plus.50megs.com/compatlist/
FIC PA2013's are one of the worst Super 7 boards out there.
I really can't recommend a K6 if you have an ATX case. But if you get parts for cheap (or free) you can build a good AT computer.

I agree, the PA 2013 is a real POS. But that ain't the only reason I said don't go out on eBay and buy components to build a socket 7 rig. or even a super 7 rig. You could build a budget Socket A rig just as cheap, unless you already have a lot of socket 7 stuff. You can buy socket A 800 to 1K stuff for the same price as socket 7 stuff, especially when you consider K6-III+ CPUs go for $40+.

By the way repo man11, nice Jug in your avatar. I prefer Lightnings myself, but I don't qualify for an avatar I guess.
