New video card time.

Well, I'm guessing that it's just about time to hang up 'ole reliable here and get a new video card. My choices are now narrowed down between an nVidia card and an ATI card, seeing as 3dfx is no longer around and 3dLabs cards are quite spendy. My selection is further narrowed down to ATI because I will not buy nVidia as I hate their guts. That and ATI was next in line for OpenGL performance last time I checked. And OpenGL is the next best thing to Glide.
So with the Radeon, is there anything to know about them before I go and buy one? I noticed they have several different versions out. Is there a particular reason I should go with any one over the other? I noticed there are a couple versions of the 9700. One with 64 megs RAM and one with 128 megs RAM. One's labeled PRO and one isn't. Is there enough of a difference that would warrant me spending the extra $20? I was actually looking at Radeons down to the 7500 line. Very inexpensive, and I've seen the 7000 perform. It allowed Warcraft III and all it's movies to run on my roomie's K6-2 400mhz machine. Heck he can even run Deus Ex more than decently. Are the 9700 lines $50 more powerful than the 7x00?

the 9700's are sure better then the 7x00's. they have a faster clock/memory speed, more features like DX9 support, agp 8x and a whole bunch of other stuff

to read up on the different reviews of cards you can try this site http://www.guru3d.com/ or http://www.xbitlabs.com/video/

the difference between the pro and non-pro can be found at www.ati.com the PRO obviously being the better card. but more expencive. if you dont have that much money to spend, people on this forum have liked the 9500 PRO. im sure that anyone with a 9500 PRO or any other radeon card would be more then willing to share their experience with their card.

right now ive got a 8500le in my system, and so far ( after 1 day of running) its been great!! and the drivers have also been a huge improvement from the older ones.
