172 MM comair rotron deals!

MPJA has some excelent deals on 172mm comair rotron fans. The Major is $14.95 and the Patriot is only $9.95! The Patriot is 24v but its very quiet and moves a lot of air at 12v form a molex. The Major is an excelent choice if you want the full 235 CFM from your 12v line. Noise isnt all that bad at 235 CFM because its not high pitch like my 8k 60 MM fans.

$14.95 12 volt Comair Rotron Major

$9.95 24 volt Comair Rotron Patriot

Not bad for a $75 fan! I got mine from ebay but they can be very hard to come by. Check out my sig to see what I did with mine.

MPJA.com absolutely has the best deals on Comair Rotron fans that I've seen. I ordered a couple from them last year for that price too. Just a warning, you need to have a $25 minimum order to get something. It was no problem for me since I wanted 2 fans though.

I know 172mm grills exist but I'll have to look around.

Its only $83 for 12 patriots.

Think of the power!
Thats more than 2 square feet of fans!

I like the Major a little more than the Patriot. The 2 flat sides make it easier to fit in your case. Its like 5.92x6.75 compaired to 6.75x6.75 for the Patriot. I might order a few Majors since mine are 24v. 24v is nice and quiet at 12v but I want more CFM range with 12v fans a rheostat.

I can attest to the quality and performance of these fans. I have no idea why more people dont use them for watercooling. It fits my Chevette heater core like a glove. At half the rated voltage it puts out the same CFM as a 120 MM but with much much less noise. I cant say enough good about Comair. As a side note the blades are not metal like some companies advertise. They are constructed of a very sturdy plastic.

You can get the 250CFM one here for $19.99 when it's in stock and thats the everyday price. On a good note this place also sells 172mm chrome grills for it too.

The fan CaseETC has is a 3500 RPM Comair Rotron Patriot. According to www.comairrotron.com its 235 CFM max at 3500 RPM not 250 CFM. They dont even make a 250 CFM 172 MM fan. The blades are not metal either, they are a very heavey duty plastic.

I have rigged Patriot DC fans to a standard 12V p/s. They are SUPER quiet at 1/2 speed but still push over 100 CFM. Highly recommended to any modder willing to try something fun. An added advantage is that they are ridulously big... like a fan on steroids. Try rigging them to your radiator. It will cool like a champ.

I would recommend calling All Electronics, as they have a retail outlet in Los Angeles. Ask someone in the store to check it out for you. They are very cool.

BTW, I found my finger guards at a technical warehouse in my area. They basically have a lot of old networking and specialty scientific equipment, including finger guards for 172mm fans. You could do a search in your area for one.

EDIT: CaseETC has the 172mm fan grills for $5.99:

Found a place selling 172mm guards for like $3. Dont know about shipping and minimum orders though. They sell TONS of resistors capacitors pots and all that fun electrical stuff for you engineering majors too. on slowass internet right now so can't really browse their pdf catalogue (like 1000 pages). But it looks sweet. www.mouser.com I'll check it out when I get home.

I just got my chevette 86 on monday, so I'm looking to move my watercooling into my case (as it isn't leaking.) My current rad is like 11-12" tall and wouldnt fit but the chevette should. DOnt worry folks. I'll take pics of the Special ed shop class project cooling box before I take it down.

edit: No minimum order and at cost shipping via UPS or air-fedex. Looks pretty good.

You could also use a PWM controller, which produces no heat.

If you check out the Comair-Rotron website, they have one DC fan called the Maltese DC that pushes 360CFM @ 172mm... the catch is that the fan pulls 51W of power, which is a LOT. Two Patriots running at full speed will pull 48W.
