Please help me! I F**ked up my GPU cooling. I wanted to replace the stock GPU sink/fan and add some memory sinks. The memory sinks went fine, but I decided to try a Thermaltake Crystal Orb. I tested it and got major artifact at stock speeds!!
The GPU is surrounded by a raised rectangle that is higher than the GPU. So after I removed all of the old epoxy paste, I layered on Arctic 3 thick enough to fill the gap (This is what an article that I read said to do).
I booted and my card was already OC to 320x305. I just started 3D Mark and the screen completely fractured. I rebooted and set it to stock speed and it only lasted about 20 seconds long before it went nuts.
Then I removed the Crystal Orb and cleaned the GPU up and put the stock sink/fan back on with a thick layer of Arctic 3. Much better, but I still cannot raise the GPU past 320 without getting artifact now!!!!!!! I could run it stable at 335 before I screwed it up.........
How can I fix this????? Help! The memory sinks work well. I can raise the speed higher now than before.
The stock GPU sink had a yellow paste that was very rigid. Did it fill the gap better and conduct the heat better?
Do I need to use a different thermal paste? Do I need to put some kind of shim between the GPU and sink?
Any help would be more than greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Dan
