Hello

I'm a complete newbie in this overclocking thing.... ... but then... I want to learn how to do it....;)

Firstly can any of u guys out there help me overclock my pc.? If possible plz tell me step by step and the easiest, safest, and cost-free way to overclock my pc....

I'm using AMD Duron 1.0 Ghz, MSI K7T266 Pro 2 Mobo and my cpu's temperature when working at full load is at most 58 C. I'm using some kind of taisol fan. I'm using Windows XP dual boot with RedHat Linux 8.0. Any idea on how to overlock my pc..? If possible i want to overlock it to 1.3 Ghz :D ...

Thanx in advance!! Really hope u guys/gals can help me without burning my cpu and my wallet!!

Read first.

Learn about the different frequencies, voltages, methods, and cooling. You're going to have to cool that Duron down a bit before you overclock it. 58C isn't too bad at stock speed if it's stable, but you'll need it a bit cooler to get it up to 1.3. Check out the cooling forum for info about cooling, and go to http://www.overclockers.com/articles373/ to get a ranking of a ton of heatsinks with reviews to all of them.

Be patient though, you could jump right into everything and start overclocking right away, but there's a good chance you'll mess up if you do it that way. Learn a bit first, and if there's ever anything you don't completely understand, don't be afraid to ask us - we're all here to help.

Good luck to you:cool:

well first welcome to the forums...
one good place to start would be hear http://www.overclockers.com/topiclist/index04.asp#BEGINNER GUIDES
but i can tell you now that you will nead to invest in some cooling if you hope to reach 1.3
its unlikly that you will kill stuff as long as its kept cool the 2 chips that ive kiled were
1. removed the fan on my blow hole with a chip out putting over 100 watts. stupid thing to do
2. the nylon nuts failing on my huge heavy heat sink and it falling off.
that chip will clock to some extent and a simple way to start is to see if you can get the frunt side bus up.
You will get lots of extra perfomance from runing at 133 fsb if its only 100 on that duron but you may need new memory also you will probably need to unlock the chip. but if your lucky by upping the fsb and voltage (and cooling) you will see 1.33 easy tahts if your ram can hackit.

edit: u got there first
