G4Ti4200 w/ 900mhz = :(

My computer is slow.. I thought by upgrading the card, games would run better.
FPS is not what I expected.
I play newer games like unreal2k3, nightfire, madden2k3
what can I do to get better FPS?
I have the latest drivers, can't overclock my board,FBS only

900
512ram
g4Ti4200 64 megs
thanks

I use a 933 with my Ti4200 and its great (obviously I wouldnt mind the latest and greatest) it plays ut2003 fine, nightfire also, cant say I have tried madden2k3 to say.

but what settings do you use in your drivers and games? perhaps there is something particulary processor heavy that is holding your fps back...as your processor (as I full well know with mine) is holding your gcard back no end...

also what fps do you actually get in say ut2003?

format

yes, I reformated the HD with win2k. It was a little bit smoother, not better with frame rates. Tried OCing, best I can do is to raise the FPS by 5mhz (stupid gigabyte kt133).

this day has come, when my fast machine from 1999 = turtle now
I don't have the funds to upgrade SOAB!!

in ut2003 - 1280x960 highest settings I get about 30-50fps and I cant see that coming from a 33MHz difference

as for video features that take up cpu, well they all do - its jsut a case of how much your graphics card can do to help, if you have say a dedicated unit for Anti Aliasing on your gcard - this would obviously help over one without, but that doesnt mean the CPU is out of the equation it just isnt being used as much.

but the Ti4200 offers alot of graphical features (even if it isnt backed up too much by your CPU) so apart from things like AA and AF that kills GeForce 4s you should be fine - if your playing with lots of bots it oculd cause that as they would eat a considerable portion of CPU time

ut and ut2003 needs more cpu than video, so I guess you need rather a fast cpu than a fast video card ... both helps but anyway

when I had my duron 650@900 with my geforce 3, I couldn't play ut2003 well anyway in 1024x768 with max settings

Unable antivirus if you have one before playing games. Unable as much features as possible on your card (anti allising, etc). This should make games run smoother.

Windows 2k will run games as well as XP... 98SE will probably run games faster simply because it's older and has less software overhead to take up RAM.
