in my opinion yes. but comparably. sounds like a cop out, but there are things that the p4 smacks us around at, and there are things where we hand the p4 it's butt.
It all depends. When doing things like MP3 or MPEG encoding, the P4 rips through that stuff way faster than the XP does. But with any serious number crunching things, such as Folding@Home, the Athlon OWNZ the P4. It all depends on what you do!
In today's market, there is no "fastest" when taking CPU of equal "speed" (or in AMD's case, of an equal PR rating). The P4 has its strenghts, and XP has its...it just all goes with what u want yo spend ur money on
