I always get a chuckle out of listings like that....

"Get your FREE "Whateveritis" today!

(Shipping and Handling: $5.00) "

Why not sell it for $5, and give free shipping? I'd pay $5 for a mouse (depending if it was worth $5) with free shipping faster than I would for a free mouse with $5 S&H.

I'd wonder what's wrong with the mouse, that they're giving them away....

That "X" hour every week at www.xoxide.com is notorious for that.... "Hey! $6.99 92mm fans on sale this time for $.99!! Too bad S&H is $7.... "

B.

well, I asked one of my uncles that did marketing before (like ayear ago) why companies would just throw stuff away (because he said sometimes they would give like free dvd players away 200 dollar dvd players with a 200 dollar rebate)....anyways, he said sometimes it has alot to do with like overstackage and somethin somethin...

er...I wasn't really listening

ah well, someone want at try?

Frodo ur uncle is right. Sometimes stores buy more than they can sell and later need the space for its replacement or for a different type of product.

Truth is there are so many variables that I doubt we can think of them all. Here are a few:

Overstock on a nonselling item.
Overstock on an item which has to be liquidated to make room for the new model.
Customer appreciation.
Making the top of the list at a low-price site.
Website hits.

How far over stock could an overclocker clock, if an overclocker could clock over stock?

Back in the days of the Greeks and Romans whenever the people where confronted with a single or chain of Destructive events on the Epic scale they took it as a sign of the gods displeasure with how things are going then promptly deposed (killed) the leader of the time.

AHHH the good ol' days :D
