Durron Unlocking

I understand the concept of PCU unlocking, at least I think that I do. I have and ECS mb that does not have jumpers or CMOS settings to overclock the CPU. Of course I do want to overclock it but I am not sure how the motherboard will react. Will is see the PCU as the highest possible speed or not see a spedd upgrade at all? What will happen if I do this, or should I even bother with it? Thanks in advance for your help.
