G-Force fx Benchmarks

GERMAN SITE Tec Channel has detailed benchmarks for GeForce FX cards, it tells us.
The cards are tested using its own benchmark suite, and there are pictures of some FX 5800 Ultra cards with and without the heatsinks.

Whether you read German or not, the pictures and the benchmarks are readable anyway.

The site compares the FX 5800 ultra to the ATI Radeon 9700 Pro and the Nvidia GeForce TI 4600.

why buy the fastest card when you can play all the games with the 9700 pro for cheaper.

hey, i have an idea, how about we wait till the card actually comes out? and not be premature on our judgement on this card. i have faith in nvidia to bring out a good product. so how about we wait till feb. 3rd or whatever the actual date is to bash it....

they gotta increase the 128 mem bus. its strangling the performance

Jesus, can you imagine what a 256 bit bus would do for a GF FX?
If it's getting about 17k at 128 bit bus, it would _easily_ push 20k at 256 bit, provided the CPU is fast enough. A 256 bit bus FX would manhandle the Radeon 9700 and compete solidly with the R350. It's a shame that Nvidia choose to just ramp clock speeds (ala 3dfx) and keep bare compliance to the dx spec (shaders, mapping, etc), without innovating what everyone else has already done: a 256 bit mem bus.

To be fair , the NV30 has alot of innovative features and far exceeds the specs for DX9.0 in several places . the problem is that it is held back by its low 128 bit bandwidth . To overcome this they have ramped up the clock speeds but still can't properly beat the 9700 pro .

The innovation may well be useless since they are not supported by DX9 ( there aren't even any DX9 games , I can't even think of any on the roadmap ) . This happened to the Radeon 8500 and its pixelshader 1.4 which I haven't seen used in anything 'cept for 3dmark 2001 SE . With the FX not securely holding the performance crown it will be even harder for them to make developers spend time and $$ writing special code for their features . It will be a waste of time to do so if NV30 cards don't sell well or are low in the food chain . So ' features ' such as CG graphical language may well be grounded for lack of industry support .

EDIT : Even if the special features are coded for in a few games or apps and benchmarks also improve , one has to ask at what price . Is it worth the $$$ , 1 to 2 PCI slots , noise , heat , limited overclockabilty , decreased image quality ( compared with the ATI 9xxx series ) , greedy power consumption ?

I've been wondering if these benches are just not accurate. Nvidia keeps talking about cinimatic video games...we dont have any yet, so how do you know how that a 9700 could run in those games.

I'm sure this isnt a very smart statement to make but it is something to think about.

i can GARAUNTEE u the day we have "cinematic" quality games, the GFFX and the 9700 Pro will be "lagacy" cards, as in discontinued, and wouldnt perform for crap in any of them

One thing is for sure, if you are going to buy this card then watercooling is a must. Water will help this card out alot I think.

I think water cooling would over tax your cooling system unless it was chilled.

supposedly those tests are on BETa drivers for the card...so performance increases shall come.

If thats true, than nVidia is having lots of problems making these drivers, and isnt the 'driver powerhouse" everybody though it was, they just got to work with the same basic drivers for 3+ years so it made things easy on em, heh

I can't believe that any of you are actually taking this information as final verdict. This is a card that is still in developement vs. a card that has been on the market for many many months now and has most of the bugs fixed.

Wait and see.
