Should I Unlock?

I have a 2600 and nforce 2,

it seems to me that my system is unlock by the mb. I can go as low as 6 to as high as 16

SHould I just unlock the l3 or l5 bridge? I need to know by next week because I"m putting on some watercooling kit and that is the point of no return. So far I can go as high as 148 with air cool. Do you thiink I can get higher with water cooling without unlocking it? or should I just fking unlock it anyways.

if yes to unlock please post picture or links to places that show you how to unlock 2600.

Check to see if the multis actually work (although they are shown in your bios you might not be able to use them all). If you can use them then there is no need to unlock! Is yours a 266 or 333 version?

Well, leaving FSB the same, try lowering the multiplier and saving to CMOS and rebooting. Somewhere on the screen during post it will display your CPU overall speed in MHz. Simply divide this number by your FSB. If you get the number you set the multi at, congratulations. If you get the same number it was at before (as far as multiplier) but you know you set it at some lower number, then it is not unlocked. Or, you can use a program like WCPUID to check these numbers.

Not necessarily - it might just mean you are locked out of the multis lower than 12.5 - try multis 13 and up.

If its a 266 version then the default is 133 x 16 - is that what you are using to start with? I would suggest you start with 166 FSB x 13 multi which is a slight overclock and increase from there the multi in 0.5 increments

I think you need to recheck as 13 x 133 = 1729 not 2138! Are you sure it is not 16 x 133?

If you are using a multi of 13 and a FSB of 133 then your speed is multi x FSB = 1729 like I said! It cant be anything else. Check in your Bios what you have it set at then check in cpuid or sandra any software for checking speed to verify. Trust me it is not possible with the combination you are saying

Just open up sandra and click on the icon relating to cpu performance - have you checked the Bios yet for the settings- also do you know what the stepping is on your cpu?

Ok as you can see the multi is 16 not 12.5/13 so 16 x 133 gives the correct speed and you have a 266 as thought. OK what I suggest you do is first establish whether the multis work for 13 and over do this by just underclocking your system through the bios say by setting the multi to 13 - remember to change the speed setting to manual from auto. If it doesnt post then it would seem it was "locked" (you cannot access the multis through your mobo) but for a NF2 that would surprise me. Also do you know if you have the latest bios?

All right, I have realize that I left it auto but the multiple still have the faded 12.5/13

well, I try to go higher and it wont' post, so I think ti locked. ANd I believe I have the very first bios because many people told me other new bios are not that good.
