I'm having a very strange problem with my computer. Whenever the computer is idle there is a moderate whining sound emanating from it that gets quite bothersome after a while. However, if I use a program such as Prime95 to set CPU load up to max and raise the temperature up, the whining sound miraculously disappears!
I know it is not the hard drive, because I have replaced it twice with different models, and the noise has stayed the same (additionally I'm using a Maxtor +9 FDB HD right now). I have also turned off all except the power supply fans, and found that those are not the culprits either. Can anybody figure out what is going on here, and how to fix it?? Thanks a lot.
