Back panel blanks, where to find?

Looking for a pre-drilled motherboad backpanel blank. You know the bit on the back of a computer case where the USB, Printer Port, Serial Ports etc. jut out.

I am building my own 3U Rackmount case and rather than cut my own, (read: my dremel skill are crap!) I would like to simply buy a pre-cut blank panel.

Any suggestions?

Peace,

Hannibal

are you reffering to the thin piece of sheet metal thats got all the holes in it for plugs. like the ones that generally come with mother boards?

Yes, plus a little bit.

I've seen the ones you are talking about sold with some motherboards. This will work for part of what I'm after.

Ideally I would like the entire back panel, including the card slot section with the screws on top. (area where the video/lan/scsi etc. cards jut out)

This looks like a lot of work to pre-fab myself. Surly some parts vendor out there is manufactoring rear panel knockout plates.

I have been to: http://www.middleatlantic.com They have some knockout panels for Lan and Telco gear, however I didn't see anything like an ATX Mobo rear knockout panel.

Peace,

Hannibal

Best bet is to find a really cheap ATX case and pop the panel out. I have found some in local comp stores for $5-$10, and there are always used cases on eBay. Computer fairs are also a good source.

Really think that's my best option? There must be a parts vendor somewhere that makes this. I can't be the only one looking for rackmount knockout panels.

Peace,

Hannibal

I read somewhere in another thread for this section about a guy who wanted to build his own PCI/backplate holder for a clear case he was building... I think someone told him to look into buying a spare Lian-Li removable motherboard rack from pcmods or xoxide or something (you could also check Lian-Li and see if they sell this as a replacement part)... hope that helps

Hummm! Dang so much for an easy solution. OK I'll check around. Thanks for the suggestions. If anyone comes across a vendor somewhere who may do this kind of thing let me know. </REACHES FOR HACK-SAW>

Peace Out,

Hannibal
