Disappearing cd-roms

If it was seeing everything fine before, check in your BIOS and make sure that it still is. If not, first thing to check is your BIOS settings, next, the cable.
 
My cd-rw drive seems to disappear sometimes, especially if I'm fiddling with adding/removing virtual drives.

This is how I fix it:
Right click on My Computer, select manage
Click on Disk Management
Assign your cd drive a drive letter.

I don't know if my problem is the same as yours, but this is what works for me.
 
I have seen that happen twice (thats without me causing it) where I just boot up and for some reason it doesnt detect the Optical drives..then upon reboot its as if it never happened :rolleyes:
 
now that i think about it this has happened to me on occasion with one of my drives... but i turn it off adjust the cables and vuala- it works again...
