boot disk error

ok i shutdown pulled my hdd out popped in a friends put 98 se on that friends hdd put mine back in and i get the error "boot disk error, replace the disk and hit a key" so i made sure there were no floppy disk or cd's in the drives and hit a key and it said the same thing, so i shutdown reseated the hdd and still did the same thing it does recognize the hdd though it says it does during post. so i put in another one of my hdd's and still the same thing, i have tried 4 different hdd's and it did the same thing on all of them, should i pull the cmos battery? thats the only thing i can think of

Will the freinds HDD work?

Double-check the jumper settings and check to make sure there was no damage to your power cable during the swap.

What os is installed on your HDD? Have you tried accessing the HDD when booted from a floppy, or CD? Can you read anything that way?

Also, next time please use a little bit more punctuation when posting.....it'd make things a lot easier.

yeah sorry about the punctuation, i was in a hurry. i type two ways, either 90 words a minute with no punctuation or 50 with punctation. I was in a hurry earlier and sort of still am so i am typing rather fast right now.
