My PSU is making a high pitched noise. It's not the fan, I checked. It's the most annoying high pitched noise, and fluctuates a little. Anyone know what it could be and if it's a sign of failure? Still waiting for my tax check, so I hope my psu isn't dieing.

I checked my PSU with no load, and it's quite, but noisy again with hooked up to mobo. I guess my psu is crapping out. The worst part is when just got over a foot of snow so the local computer shop is probally closed tomorrow.

Running on an old 235w psu I took from a old computer. If it's a leaky capacitor, I guess I can just replace it. I guess the next step would be to run the psu open and find exactly where the noise is coming from.

115VAC is bad enough, but I don't think that the 170-340VDC on the capacitors is anything to sneeze at.
