Overclockers to the rescue

There's a terrible crime happening- and only WE can stop it!!

OK=- maybe not, but after having a shuffle in my regestry the other day to clear some old junk I found a call for help... A regKey called "Help, I'm held prisoner in a software factory".

The pic is what (and where) the rouge file is. Anyone know if this is a virus or anything? I've tried to search windows for the words 'Prisoner' and 'Alamode' but there's nothing there.

All the fields were blank (apart from a Default string) so I doubt there is anything nasty lurking about in there but if there is any word on what I can expect if this IS a virus- then any help would be great.

that has to be the weirdest thing i have ever seen... have you tried running a spyware searching program? if not, try spybot - search and destroy. you can find it at cnet's website...

I would say it is harmless, someones joke, easy to do, just drop those useless keys in and then omit them from the uninstall.

Pretty cool.

If it contained any keys or strings, only THEN would I worry about it...

Perhaps its a chain e-mail gone wrong

Thats like in word 97, if you hit a buncha stuff a crappy 3d flight sim comes up its just water and you guide yourself over wherever you want, no dashboard, etc. Just someone really bored

Thanks for the suggestions and comments everyone.

I checked with AdAware, nothing there. I'm not too worried= its probably been there for ages and i've only had the usual bumps and scrapes what Windows generaly presents.

Yea I remember if in word 97 you type "Bill Gates should be shot dead." And highlight it and hit theasurus
you would get responses like: Icepick, hang him , shotgun
and other suggestions.

Note for FBI:
I do not advocate any harm to bill gates, if you are reading this string, please take the time read the entire thread before you kick down my door, take my computers, suspend my rights and lock me up .

I've got word 97 and it didn't do any of that for me.

Nothing wrong with Peterlee- apart from lame excuses for local entertainment, no reliable public transport after 8pm and the foul stench of the Walkers factory that I seem to be the only person to smell (Either that or the town really does have a straydog/fouling problem)- oh yeah, and everyone in the town supports Sunderland . But the beer prices are a hellva lot cheaper than in London, or anywhere south of Leeds for that matter (Me= Original Southerner).

And for the record- I would never consider putting ANY alcohol in my (theoretical) water cooling rig, it's not right putting the amber nectar into a pump for nobody to drink. And from a technical side it wouldnt be too good for the pump/equipment either.

it has been a while since I did that trick so I looked it up and came up with this, try these.
I no longer have word97, so im not sure if they work.
