Look what I found:

To: hardware producers

All hardware manufactures should publish product's specification, so open-source developers may write drivers for free software OSes such as GNU/Linux.

I signed it. Establishing an open hardware platform among all products is very important for open source, IMO.

Most open drivers are already based on such specs. Bleeding edge hot stuff usually doesn't get published because the companies don't want to give any help to competitors.

Noone pays attention to those petitions anyways.

Can't hurt at least. Even if no one listens, it only takes a few seconds to sign.

i signed a petition a while back to get freebsd drivers for nvidia cards...and what do you know? we have some now.

This looks like an embryonic effort. Very few companies will take something like this seriously, but maybe it will encourage OSS advocates to put more pressure on hardware manufacturers.

companies only respond to market pressures, this isn't a market pressure. Good idea though.

If this isn't a market pressure, I don't know what is. Albeit it's a niche market, but a market nonetheless.

3,000 out of hundreds of millions signing a petition is not a market pressure to me
