I temperarally have to shut my comp down. How do I pause it?

I'm assuming that you are using the text only console. Hit control C, and it will safely close.

yes. using text only. so when I open it up it will start automatically again?

When you reboot, you'll have to start the console again, but it will restart from where it was stopped. It will almost allways do this if it has been stopped unexpectedly by a power outage, or by shutting down the computer but forgetting to close FAH first. Hitting control C is safer though.
