google hack

You now have to email them to get the google client???

I've set it up a few times now and each time there is no client or client.cfg. I activate it and see the icon in the bar, but it will not start because there is nothing to start. I've edited the reg keys with kendan's hack and by hand, but it does no good if there is no client and no core.

google toolbar

Ok.

1) Download the toolbar- check

2) Activate the folding- check

3) Alter client.cfg C:\program files\googledcc\* does not exist, empty

4) Alter reg keys by hack or by hand- check

5) Click on icon in toolbar and start folding- will not start

Apperantly I have to email their support to allow my toolbar to download the client.

I need to fold discreetly on my girlfriend's computer. She recognizes folding in the task manager and kills it.

My only other option is to fold when idle as a scheduled task. That way as soon as the mouse moves or a key is pressed, it stops folding, and resumes after 3 minutes of being idle. That way it is impossible to see it in the task manager. But that's only a part-time solution. I want to fold full-time if I can.

i got rid of the google toolbar.....it never worked properly with pop-up stopper. I tell the search to open a new window, and even when holding down ctrl it doesn't open a new search....so I just do ctrl-N and hit home and search, hehe.

hidden folding

She's pretty computer saavy. I bought the hardware for her box, but she insisted on putting it together and installing everything (except linux, which I installed). She does check the task manager frequently. And while she's ok with folding most of the time, whenever she's mad I can count on it being killed. And she hates it when I do anything to her computer, so anything I do needs to be well-hidden. Or else she'll hack my computers or my IM accounts...

I just deleted my whole toolbar went back and downloaded it again. then went to http://toolbar.google.com/dc/aboutdc.html and turned on google compute. It worked. As for not seeing it in the task manager it is still there when you run the google compute. just go to that site and turn it on.

This is about Google compute You can make the toolbar not visible by right clicking in it and unchecking the Google toolbar.

google compute

I went there and turned it on. There is still no client.cfg for me to edit, nor anything in the /program files/googledcc directory. When I click on the DNA icon and tell it to start it doesn't.

I have unistalled and gone through the full install process twice. Perhaps there's a firewall service running (though I turned her firewall off and didn't see any unusual services).

I just deleted everything including googledcc and all inside then reinstalled the bar and google compute. here is the path to the config it gave me: C:\Program Files\GoogleDCC\GoogleFah\client.cfg

It is there so there might be something else in the way. It also turned itself on the second I installed googlecompute. try to delete the googledcc folder and uninstall the toolbar. then reinstall the tool bar then reinstall google compute and see if it creates the folder with everything this time It could be a firewall issue. I am not sure what the problem is since I can not recreate the problem.

Tried some more, same problem. I'm ready to give up.

Is it just a regular client where everything is renamed that resides in that directory? The reg keys are all there, and maybe if I get a test client and put it in there and set it up the way google needs it to be set up, it'll work....

She found my scheduled task (run when idle) and deleted the client.

Nope it is special. It is named different and I think there are some other differences like it is hidden and integrated into the bar. There has to be something blocking it. It should be creating all the files. Have you tried deleting the Reg entry, The Googledcc dir, and removing the google toolbar? then starting over from scratch. Is there a firewall? and it will still show up in the task manager when you do get it working. Good luck.

system

Windows XP Home (upgraded from 98)
Redhat 8 dual booted (I can fold in redhat no problem and she doesn't know how to kill it... yet) But she mostly boots into windows.

Next time she messes with the folding, I'll get serious and say she might have just trashed the cure for cancer.
