Overclocking CPUs...

Is the newer Intel CPUs now easier and more OC'able the AMD CPUs now? Does the newer Intel CPUs come unlock from the factory?

1. No, I'd say they're about even.....AMD might even hold the edge slightly in the overclock department.

2. No, those are called ES (Engineering samples). Very hard, if not impossible to come by.

I'd say the are fairly even. There are the new 2.4b P4s that easily overclock to 3.4+ ghz and there are the new AMD 1.7 Tbred Bs that seem to overclock to 3.3+ PR ghz.

I'd say the AMD chip is more of a gamble as far as overclocking is concerned, but its also 1/3 the price. Not to mention a kick butt nForce2 board will cost you a lot less then a granitebay board.

As far as a lower speed AMD chip at 210+ FSB I would really like to see some hard data, but it seems to be common knowledge that it will perform much better then a similar (mhz) chip at lower FSB.

So you could possibly get a chip to 2.4 ghz at 200+ FSB that is as fast as a...say 3.5 ghz...when the PR rating for a Tbred at 2.4 ghz is somewhere around 3000-3200+. I'd like to see some hard data to see just how performance scales to increasing FSB and if it levels off at a certain speed. Consirdering people are hitting 230+ FSB you would think someone would have done this by now.

excaliber PC has a combo deal w/ the best oc components..... NF7 v 1.2/XP 1700 DLT3C/NF7 Backup Bios for $175..... this setup will oc to 2.4-2.6ghz on AIR..... AMD is by far the best for price/oc value and will perform equally to a 2.4B intel
