Why should I buy the logitech 680's?

I am getting ready to purchase a 5.1 system and not sure which are the best for what i want. I am considering the z-680's and the klipsch promedia 5.1 set ups. I am leaning towards the the 680's because of the overwhelming excess of features, but am not totally convinced. What do you all think? Please dont start a brand war in this thread.

i remember reading back in its first month of release of a hissing problem that was commonly heared and that logitech even admitted there being a slight flaw which causes possible hissing...so if u decide to get it, cross your fingers.

The hissing problem is caused by a flaw in the control console, not the sub-woofer/amp and/or satellites itself. Logitech knows the problem and any future models will have the new control console. I also heard they'll be replacing all faulty control consoles at their expense. It's win-win.

I personally think Logitech's new "Z" series speakers are amazing. I would definitely purchase the Z-680's myself since I've finally become an owner of the highly touted Z-560's.

It's a powerful system, as for this hissing, if it was sometime ago (i.e 4 or more months) Chances are that they've rectified the problem. Just make sure when you get the set, try to look from a manufacturing date and then judge by that.

Exclamation the Z680 sound the best

I would have bought the Z680 over the Klipsch for that fact, But I got eh Z640 instead and elected to get the better graphics card (9700Pro ) GO with what sounds the best to you.

i believe that the 689's are digital and the klipsh are analog so thats a good reason IMHO

If you want bass but no fidelity go with the Logitechs

I'd really recommend the Digitheatre DTS. They used to be $700 but are now on sale for $275.

You can check out reviews of them at 3dsoundsurge or anandtech.

I was lucky enough (sarcasm) to get an early model where the hissing is louder than my box, even when they're 2+ feet away. Been meaning to email Logitech for 2 months now and I just did it.

Other than the hissing (if yours hiss), these speakers are awesome. Gaming, music, movies... everything sounds real now, not like it comes from a computer. I've been playing old games again, because they come alive with the improved sound.

I would recommend these speakers anyday... like you said, they are loaded with features and well worth the ~$300.

Yeah other than the widely known "hiss" problem associated with the Z-680's, it is a good choice considering the features it comes with (ie: digital decoding). However, beyond that, the control pod, slightly improved sub/amp, and the center channel, they are identical in every way to the Z-560's.

If you like "boomy" bass, this set would be for you. It's great for gaming and movies, but for music, the bass is too overwhelming. I can't even listen to music at night even with the bass turned all the way down. According to a few owners of the Z-680's, the bass is more boomy than the Z-560's, so it's your choice as to where you would draw the line.

The Klipsch, VideoLogics, and the Megaworks 5.1 systems don't have the boomy bass; however, a lot more punch, and they would be ideal for music listeners. So if you're an avid music listener, these 3 options may serve you better.

In the end, it all depends on your ears. Something can sound amazing to one set of ears, while another may totally disagree.

Good luck on your decision.
