Talking Is it worth it to........ (switch mobo /case)

Hey all

K, i got a dell system here work got me :

2.4 (C1)
512 PC800
ATi 9700 PRO
120g WD 2mb
dvd /48x burner

Now, since i just bought a BH7 - i got an extra mobo and memory - a P4S533 and 512 PC2100

The dell case gets hot as heck! - the only cooling is to the CPU - my ati card gets so hot i can not touch it!

Now, - would it be better if i took out all the parts except the mobo and memory and put it into a new case with the P4S533 and pc2100 memory?

This way:

1. I could over clock the 2.4 to @ least 2.8 (dell used the same chip i got) with stock cooling fan

2. I could cool the system better

3. - i would lose from not using the pc800 and downgrade to pc2100 - huge diff?

So, would you do it?

i was thinking of modding the Dell case - but just incase something goes wrong with it - i would like to be able to send it back under warranty.

for leaving it in the dell case.

In this sense - i figure if anything does go wrong with the system - i could likely replace it myself and faster then if i had to send it to dell, since we are in costa rica.

If i do leave it in the dell case - i want to find a way to put in some fans - cause it gets way too hot in there.

I say put it in a new case.

I did this with a Sony Vaio a few years ago. man what a difference that made! better power supply, and a few case fans, and the computer stoped crashing on me.

New case and new motherboard wouldnt be a bad idea...i cant recomend getting PC2100 however for a P4. Go with at least PC 2700, you can get the stuff pretty cheap now a days.

And depending on the PSU you can pretty much get any case you wanted...oherwise i'd get an antec case w/ an antec PSU (ie the PSU in the dell is crap, which it might just be)

I will likely get a plain case - and mod it - but the pc2100 i had bought as they had no pc2700 @ the time, but can upgrade no problems, so yeah, looks like i will try a new case

heck - even with pc2100 - i over clocked my p4 2.4 to 2.89 no problems! so yeah here goes..lol
