My O/Ced p4 computer does something very strange when rebooted. It detects a non-existant PCI modem. (the standard "new hardware has been detected" routine). The only device actually installed in a PCI slot is a Santa Cruz sound card. The problem is probably overclocking related, (p4 [email protected]) but the system is stable in prime95, memtest86, and sandra torture tests. Has anyone encountered anything like this before?
Thanks for all responses.

have you tried removing the sound card or putting it in a different slot? also, try to let windows install the phantom modem to see what happens. maybe it will give the non existant modem an irq...
