I think alot of the guyz here use water wetter i think that stops growth too
Anti freeze will stop growth and some anit freezes even have a lubricant in them for water pumps (car use, but im sure it would be good for a fish pump aswell), but be carefull how much you add because it dosent dissapate the heat aswell as plain water, if you are adding it just for keeping the system cleen im sure you could maybe run a 80:20 mix unless you are trying to stop the water from freezing you would need to follow the instructions on the bottle and add it accordingly (for sub zero temps)

I used erythromycin in my system, you can get in in an aquarium store. But i still got some growth, or something I have no idea what it is, maybe mineral deposits on my vinyl walls.

To loosen the stuff up i dropped in some isopropyl alchohol and that got rid of it.

Change out your water and use Water Wetter. I used Purple Ice for a few months and it ruined my Tygon tubing. Put a nasty yellow film on all of it. I had to soak all my blocks and heatercore in CLR for a few hours to get it all off.

I put in Water Wetter the next and so far i have no film on the tubes.

I tend to put in some rubbing alcohol into my system (usually a 15/85 alcohol to water ratio). If it can disenfect wounds, then it can easily take care of creepie crawlies.

water wetter and antifreeze are the two most common additives used to keep nasties out. you really only need a few capfuls of either in your system to kill stuff. dont use a lot of it at all cause it can actually be bad for the main gasket seal on many pumps. wont damage it, but it slicks it up too much that it tends to leak. just 3 capfuls of water wetter or antifreeze is the way to go
